Name: Ruhail al-Nashina Khan-Bajazet Ruhail holds little regard for a "higher power," and he privately finds much of the teachings that House Bajazet clings to so furiously to be antiquated at the least and outwardly ridiculous and backwards at the most. He is careful to hide these feelings, of course, and even his closes confidants amongst the Bajazet hold this to be nothing more than the "typical agnostic stench that clings to the ruling class." If asked to whom he answers, the Pasha will reply, "the Padishah Emperors." Ruhail's God, first and foremost, is duty. Anything beyond that is beyond his interest, and perhaps beyond his understanding as well. The traditions in which House Bajazet is steeped are, to Ruhail, an allowable comfort. Despite his views on the faith of the House, he is as much an outsider to the cosmopolitan ways of the Imperial Core as any of the Bajazet Sultans before him. Indeed, his accent is thicker than that of most of the New Adrianapolian citizenry as he comes from a somewhat out-freyn settlement on III Delta Kaising. As such, Ruhail feels quite at home amidst the antique architecture and linguistic traits of the House, and even views them with a stubborn pride stemming from an "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude that characterizes much of his other work. Formerly a Pasha and close confidante of the Lady Sarina and recently her husband, Ruhail al-Nashina Khan is the Siridar-Baron of House Bajazet by right of marriage. He has previously kept out of the wide arena of Landsraad or Imperial politics, and so little is known of him by any other than close Family Retainers. From the whispers that surround such figures, however, one may ascertain that the Sultan is a quiet man who preaches efficiency beyond all else, and surprisingly aloof for one who has caught the fancy of Sarina Bajazet. Of the Pasha in general, close confidants have likened him to a cheops player who is very fond of his rook and his knight, tolerant of his bishop, jealously protective of his queen, and quick to either play off his pawns or promote them as soon as can be arranged. When asked, however, Ruhail refuses to comment.
Medical Profile: Ruhail's first action as he sits in House Arrest at Eski Serai is to remove any future threat. He pulls in what little favor he has at the Baron's court to secure the poisoning of the dottering old Aurangazeb who has brought charges against the Khan. Having taken care of business so adroitly, Ruhail is actually given a fighting chance at the trial: he stands as the only legitimate heir to the Bajazet stakes on III Delta Kaising. After a long night's preparation, Ruhail offers his full fealty to the Bajazet along with the remaining fruits of the Khan line: Afzal's daughter Imari is made a slave in the Sultan's harem, as is his youngest son Farhan. The Sultan, relatively appeased by this gesture, grants to the Khans a small fief on III Delta Kaising, but demands that Ruhail himself stay behind on New Adrianopolis to attend his Sultan. As Ruhail denounces his father, a full pardon is included in this remission. The remaining three years of Selim XV's rule are dangerous for Ruhail, but through a most discrete manipulation of power, he is spared from a Janissary blade. He also makes significant inroads with Suleiman XII, whom he judges a relatively benign figure in the court of Selim. After all, the man made n o moves to threaten his brother's reign despite numerous opportunites. 10078 - The death of his concubine having driven him to rage, Suleiman XII kills Selim XV and all of his non-immediate family. In the resulting power vacuum, Ruhailkhan is one of several ministers who are promoted to fill important positions. Promoted to the rank of Pasha, his fief on III Delta Kaising is also extended. 10091 - Suleiman XII dies, and the throne passes relatively uneventfully to his son, Sha'ara'diin II Bajazet. Ruhailkhan continues his ascent in the Bajazet Court; by 10092, his fiefdom on III Delta Kaising is formally vested to the minister who was adminstering it. Ruhailkhan is granted the lands surrounding Yeni Serai on the continent of Persha and closens his ties with those of the Baron's family who remain on New Adrianopolis. [Date unknown]- Sha'ara'diin II is killed by Harkonnen treachery. Ruhailkhan keeps a low profile during the ensuing panic, choosing to hold fast to his fief on Persha rather than attempting to increase power in the wake of such a large disaster. The House Warmaster, Haroon Kiamil, is given command of a Regency in the name of the sickly Sarina Bajazet. [Date unknown]- The twin sisters return to New Adrianopolis. As one of the premier advisors (and certainly one of the more loyal ones following the Baron's death), Ruhailkhan is a common face at Yeni Serai, and even travels to Eski Serai when the weather changes, leaving his fief in the care of able ministers. 10094 - The Lady Sarina Bajazet weds Ruhail al-Nashina Khan on New Adrianapolis after a year long courtship. Were the elder sister to concede it, this would give the man rights to the title of Sultan Bajazet. Ruhail does not make any move to push for such a concession; however, under the accepted but rarely used terms of such a marriage, he takes the surname 'Bajazet.' Later this year, he leaves New Adrianopolis to travel to Kaitain as soon as transit holds are lifted following the death of Jeon I Corrino. At a session of Court called by Erich I Ladislas Corrino, he is appointed Siridar-Baron of House Bajazet by Imperial Grant.
